16 Aug Celebrating Independence
Marking Indian Independence Day is always a special date in the school calendar, and a chance for us to gather as a whole community to remember those who fought for the nation’s freedom, and everything that has been achieved since.
On Sunday, 15 August, we celebrated the start of India’s 75th year of independence with our virtual flag raising ceremony, as well as marking National Liberation Day of Korea.
In keeping with a Woodstock tradition, the flag was hoisted by the students of Indian nationality who have studied here for the longest time. This year the honour went to Anishka and Mahima from the Class of 2022, who have both studied at Woodstock from Early Years.
Special thanks to Jamie Alter – YouTuber, actor, sports journalist and Woodstock Alumni from the Class of ’99 – who joined us as our guest speaker at the occasion.
The event also featured special musical performances by Anushka from the Class of 2029, Ms Kushmita Vishwakarma and Dr Aloke Maiti from our music department, and the staff choir.
The celebration was organised by Woodstock School’s Chaplain, Mrs Sanjaya Mark, with the support of the other members of our festivals committee. It was the first of many events we are planning during this special anniversary year.
Thanks to all of you who were able to join us live for the event. For those of you who couldn’t, you can watch a recording of the whole event on our YouTube channel.
