Getting to Mussoorie
Flight Options
Flights are available from New Delhi to Dehra Dun numerous times a day in each direction and are run by Vistara, Air India, and Indigo. The Dehra Dun airport, Jolly Grant, is 25 km east of Dehra Dun (about two hours’ drive from Mussoorie).
Train
Besides flights train is still one of the preferred ways for most people to travel between Delhi and Dehra Dun. To check schedules, prices and book tickets from anywhere in the world by credit card contact http://www.cleartrip.com/trains or visit Indian Railway website – IRCTC Next Generation eTicketing System (Note that there are discounts for senior citizens and women).
Train options to consider include the Mussoorie Express (also known as Dehra Dun Express), the Shatabdi, the Nizamuddin Express. Depending on the ticket you purchase, Delhi trains leave from Nizamuddin station or the New Delhi Station. Make sure you confirm the departing station. Where possible consider booking A/C Chair Car if available. If you are travelling from New Delhi station, the platform is on the Ajmeri Gate side; having your taxi take you to that entrance saves a lot of steps above the platforms. Getting to/from Old Delhi station can be difficult and we encourage booking the Mussoorie Express only when there is no other option.
There are similarly-timed overnight trains for the return trip. You should plan to book the A/C 2-Tier car on overnight trains. Bedding is provided.
Cars & Taxis
Traveling between Delhi and Mussoorie, and in and around Mussoorie by car can take more time when travelling, but offers more flexibility in making travel arrangements. For booking, we recommend using one of approved taxi services used by Woodstock and listed on the attached document that includes approved rates. For example taxis can meet you in Delhi at the airport, a hotel, or in Dehra Dun at the airport or train station. The alumni office is happy to book a taxi if needed. All transportation costs are paid by the visitor.
Travel Agents
The travel agents listed below are approved and used by Woodstock staff and alumni. They can assist you with travel within India and offer a variety of touring options within all major cities. When traveling through Delhi specifically they can also arrange for a car to meet you when you arrive at the airport (many hotels offer this service too).
