Sixteen teams are converging on Woodstock School for the nineteenth Win Mumby All-India Basketball Tournament. The championship starts on today and runs until Saturday 3 November.
This year, the participating boys’ teams are: Apex Public School (Delhi), The Asian School (Dehra Dun), The Doon School (Dehra Dun), Modern School (Delhi), Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Rai, Haryana), Shiv Nadar School (Noida), Welham Boys School (Dehra Dun), and Woodstock School (Mussoorie).
The girls’ teams are: Delhi Public School (Delhi), Modern School (Delhi), Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Rai, Haryana), Pardada Pardadi School (Bulandshahr, UP), Shiv Nadar School (Noida), St Mary’s Convent College (Nainital), Strawberry Fields High School (Chandigarh), and Woodstock School (Mussoorie).
The Modern School’s boys’ team will seek to defend last year’s championship title. Last year’s girls’ contest was won by Monfort School from Delhi, who are not participating in this year’s tournament.
The competition will include a fantastic opening Pep Rally featuring Woodstock’s Pep Band on Wednesday 31 October at 4:30pm in the Quad.
Woodstock’s Student Life Coordinator and Head of Sports Ajay Mark says: “The Win Mumby Tournament is the highlight of Woodstock School’s sporting calendar. The basketball tournament is the largest of its kind in North India, and uniquely both boys and girls can compete in it. As well as looking forward to seeing some excellent basketball and sportsmanship in the coming days, we always relish the opportunity to invite other schools to our campus and give them a taste of the Woodstock experience.”
The finals will be decided on Saturday 3 November, starting at 2:30pm with a performance by the 11 Garhwal Rifles Military Band with their Bag Pipers from Dehradun, led by Major Havaldar Santosh. There will also be a performance of Buchaechum, a traditional Korean fan dance, performed by Woodstock students.
The winners will receive their prizes from our chief guest, Mussoorie MLA Mr. Ganesh Joshi.
