06 December, 2021 1 CommentCollege Counselling at Woodstock encompasses career development, course selection, and planning for university throughout the senior school experience. Students have weekly homeroom meetings and receive personal attention in advisor groups and in individual appointments with our college counsellors.
Students are prepared for the college application process and life after Woodstock through junior and senior seminar courses. Topics include research, comparison and “fit,” financial aid, and information about higher education admissions around the world.
College Counselling at Woodstock commences in Grade 10 with a focus on identifying strengths, exploring career pathways, and planning for success. In Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) classes, students participate in a unit focused on identification of student strengths, interests, and aptitudes. In addition, the College Counselling Department provides resources to aid students in IB course selection, taking into account student interests as well as different regions of the world.
Beginning in Grade 11, students are introduced to weekly junior seminars and a course taught by College Counsellors to help students know themselves, know their options, and make an action plan for their college application process. Grade 12 students continue with senior seminar, a transition preparation course to successfully navigate next steps. Students receive counselor supported time to work on university essays, applications, and entrance testing or to plan their gap year.
Our College Counsellors, in addition to individual advising, invite several universities to run workshops and presentations to aid students and parents and to help in planning and making decisions about university choice. Each year over 200 university representatives from highly-regarded institutions globally including Australia, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, the US, and Europe visit us. The College Counselling Department works very closely with universities and have created a repository of several resources through a virtual library that students and parents can readily access.
